Artificial Intelligence is being used in many industries like manufacturing, entertainment, travel. AI has also been useful in the medical field. It helps identify tumors, diagnose forms of acne among other things. Although we are seeing it more, in other areas of healthcare its adoption has been much slower because doctors don’t use it. Qian Yang, Ph.D. student in Human-Computer Interaction at Carnegie Mellon University works on designing AI that doctors want to use. We discussed the role of design and Human-Computer Interaction in a system that is used to decide if a patient should have a heart pump implant or not. Qian explained the process of observing everything at a hospital, and coming up with a solution that uses AI and is used by doctors.
